Fury Comes From Behind Again, Defeat Lancaster 5-2

June 11, 2008-In a battle of unbeaten teams at Mitchel Athletic Complex, the Fury's second consecutive come-from-behind victory paced them to a 5-2 win over the Lancaster Inferno. With the win, the Fury improves to 5-0-0 while Lancaster is now 3-1-0.

Lancaster's Megan Monroig opened the scoring in the 2nd minute with a blistering, angled 20-yard shot past Fury goalkeeper Becky Wachsberger.

Long Island Fury defender Allie Long figured in the next two goals. An Erin Hench handball in the 11th minute led to a Fury penalty kick, converted by Long. Then Lancaster forward Amy Pickard stripped the ball from Long in the 40th minute and converted the breakaway.

A beautiful through-pass from Fury midfielder Kelly Henderson to Jasmyne Spencer led to the tying goal in the 70th minute.

The Inferno went down to 10 players in the 72nd minute when forward Katie Lamm was sent off for her second yellow card of the match.

Jasmyne Spencer was upended in the penalty area by Lancaster defender Carli Brill and Long converted the penalty kick to make the score 3-2 in the 80th minute.

Spencer assisted on Karin Simonian's goal in the 82nd minute and Alaina Beyar finished off the scoring in the 84th minute off an assist from Kelly Henderson.

"A defining moment for our team," commented Fury head coach Paul Riley. "We're a young team but we were able to come from behind. If we make it to the playoffs, that beautiful through-pass from Kelly (Henderson) to Jasmyne (Spencer) could be our play of the year."
