Long Island Fury Shuts Out Millburn Magic, 1-0 June 13, 2008-Friday the 13th proved to be lucky for the Long Island Fury as they edged the Millburn (NJ) Magic, 1-0, at Mitchel Athletic Field tonight. The game was a tense, midfield affair with little of the end-to-end play of Long Island's Fury-ous 5-2 rally over the Lancaster Inferno two nights earlier. In the 5th minute, Fury midfielder Allie Long dribbled around two Magic defenders and put a 20-yard roller in the corner of the net, off the left post. It was Long's fourth goal of the year. A 75th minute goal-line clearance by Fury midfielder Lorraine Quinn proved to be the gamesaver for Long Island as they could not muster another goal. Fury goalkeeper Becky Wachsberger made three saves for the shutout. "I thought our best players tonight were Lorraine Quinn, defender Marie Curtin and Becky Wachsberger," commented Fury head coach Paul Riley. With the win, Long Island improves to 6-0-0 while the expansion Millburn side drops to 2-2-1.
