A Red-Letter Day as the Fury Defeat Connecticut to Stay Undefeated

June 15, 2009, New Britain, Connecticut-Three different players scored for the visitors as the Long Island Fury defeated the SoccerPlus Connecticut Reds, 3-2, in Women's Premier Soccer League action. All five goals were scored in the first half.

Scoring the first two Fury goals were Karin Simonian of Westbury from an assist by Baldwin's Kelly Henderson, then Vicki DiMartino of Massapequa off an assist by Simonian. The game-winning goal came in the 38th minute as DiMartino was on a breakaway and she crossed the ball to Bay Shore's Jasmyne Spencer, who put the ball in the net.

"I was very pleased with our effort tonight, particularly with most of the team playing a few games in the past week," commented Long Island Fury head coach Paul Riley. "Deanna Murino was very, very good in midfield tonight in her debut for the Fury this year. Karin Simonian was excellent."

"Vicki DiMartino was again the Offensive Player of the Game," the Fury coach continued. "I dropped Kelly Henderson from midfield to defense in the second half to settle the defense down and I thought that she was the Defensive Player of the Game. Now the players can get some rest and prepare for a tough game at the New England Mutiny on Saturday night."

Brittany Anghel of East Meadow made her Long Island Fury debut by playing goal in the first half and made two saves. North Bellmore's Danielle Ippolito made 10 saves in the second half.

With the win, the Fury are now 4-0-0 while the Reds drop to 2-3-1.

Long Island's next game is this Saturday night, June 20, 7:05 pm at the 1-3-0 New England Mutiny.

The next home game is Wednesday night, June 24 at Adelphi University's Competition Field in Garden City. At 6 pm, the Fury play the 2-3-1 Millburn Magic while their men's team, the Long Island Academy, entertain the 0-3-0 Morris County Colonials at 8 pm.
