Fury Shutout Central Delaware Future, 4-0

June 3, 2008-Two goals in each half helped the Long Island Fury defeat the Central Delaware Future, 4-0.

Vicki DiMartino opened the scoring in the 26th minute on a breakaway off a through-pass from Jasmyne Spencer. Spencer scored on a 10-yard volley in the 32nd minute off a lovely cross from Vicki's older sister, Gina DiMartino.

In the second half, the older sister turned scorer with a piercing 14-yard volley in the 60th minute. Karin Simonian closed out the scoring in the 70th minute on a breakaway.

Becky Wachsberger made one save for the Fury to get the shutout in goal, lowering her goals against average to 0.4.

"A very good performance tonight. Adding Jasmyne and Gina back to our line-up added a lot more speed to our play," commented Fury head coach Paul Riley, "It was good preparation for our big match at Atlantic City on Saturday night. The Diablos are a big team so we'll try and beat them with our speed."

In the nightcap, the Long Island Academy edged the Boston Aztecs, 2-1, on a sensational winning goal by substitute Stefan Dimitron.

Corner kicks resulted in both first half goals. The Academy got on the board in the 6th minute with Academy midfielder Arman Osooli volleying from 10 yards off an assist by Jose Batista. The Aztecs equalized just before halftime on a header by Mike DeSantis from the corner taken by Matty Lemure.

A wonderful solo effort by Dimitron, dribbling past three defenders and scoring from 10 yards past Boston keeper Peter LeVaseur in the 81st minute was the difference. Academy keeper Billy Gatti made five saves, stifling three breakaways in the first half.

"We were completely outplayed in the last 20 minutes of the first half but Billy Gatti kept us in the game. Their goal seemed to wake us up, we made some good adjustments at halftime and Stefan scored a wonderful goal to win it," commented Academy head coach Adrian Gaitan.
