Fury Play the Millburn Magic to a Scoreless Tie in New Jersey
In the kick-off of the Women’s Premier Soccer League season for both teams tonight, the Long Island Fury and Millburn Magic played to a scoreless tie in New Jersey. The only goal of the game was disallowed after the Fury’s Kerrianne Madigan was adjudged to be offside after scoring off a Devin Pendergast shot that hit the post.

“We played okay but a tie is not the outcome we were looking for,” commented Fury head coach Michael Demakis. “We had a very young team tonight and our offense needs to be more dynamic and finish our opportunities.”

“Making her Long Island Fury debut, goalkeeper Alicia Ramos was solid in net and I was very pleased with her play,” Coach Demakis added. “She did not give up any rebounds and distributed the ball well.”

Founded in 2006 as a Women's Premier Soccer League franchise, the Long Island Fury won the WPSL national championship in both 2006 and 2009. Seven Long Island Fury alumnae--Gina and Tina DiMartino, Kelly Henderson, Ali Long, Rebecca Moros, Alex Singer and Sue Weber--used their phenomenal play for the Fury to become professional players in Women's Professional Soccer. Their former coach, Paul Riley, now coaches the Philadelphia Independence franchise in that same league.
