Midfielder Lauren Sawyer "Fast, fast, fast with a unique ability to get behind defences. Works both sides of the ball and is diligent in her approach to the game," commented Long Island Fury head coach Paul Riley. "Has made a massive improvement in recent years and deserves her chance at the top women's level in the country," Lauren plays for Albertson Fury '89 in the Long Island Junior Soccer League, and says her best moment ever on a soccer field came with "winning the 2006 State Cup with Albertson." The St. James resident attended Smithtown East High School, where she was named All-League, All-Conference, All-County and All-State in both 2006 and 2007. Lauren served as the team captain in both 2006 and 2007 and is Smithtown East's all-time record holder in goals and assists. She was honored as Smithtown East's Most Valuable Player in 2006 as well after leading the Bulls to the league title. Lauren just completed her freshman year at St. Joseph's College in Philadelphia, where she competes for the Hawks.
