Cody Newman Joins Fury Teammate Alyssa Pember on Under-17 Youth National Team (February 4, 2007)-The Long Island Fury of the Women's Premier Soccer League, 2006 WPSL national champions and 2006 Organization of the Year, is very pleased to announce that midfielder Cody Newman of Bellerose has joined When they are not competing for the Fury or for the United States, both Cody and Alyssa star for the Albertson Fury '89 in the Long Island Junior Soccer League. Cody studies at Benjamin Cardozo High School in Queens where she is an honor roll student. "Cody has tremendous ability on the ball. A fantastic engine with vision and top-class technique to go with it," commented Long Island Fury head coach Paul Riley. "Very good in one-on-one situations, she can play a multitude of positions and her recent verbal commitment to Duke for the fall of 2008 has given her more reason to continue her fantastic training." Alyssa is an honors student at Northport High School and captains the U.S. Girls-Under-17 Youth National Team. "Alyssa is a first-class defender and an unbelievable competitor. She is the best defender in her age group in the country in my opinion," commented coach Riley. "She is strong, quick, ruthless in the tackle. She also understands the game very well and is tactically well beyond her years. She The U.S. Under-17s kicked off 2007 with a training camp from January 3 to 10 in Orlando at the University of Central Florida. U.S. head coach Erica Walsh brought in 30 players, many of whom saw considerable time last year with the U.S. U-16s under head coach Kazbek Tambi. All 30 players were born in 1990.
