Fury Teammates Kelly Henderson and Gina DiMartino Named to U.S. Under-20 National Team January 31, 2007-The national champion Long Island Fury of the Women's Premier Soccer League is very pleased to announce that midfielder Kelly Henderson of Baldwin and forward Gina DiMartino of Massapequa have been named to the United States Under-20 National Team. Just like Tom Brady and Michael Jordan, Henderson is a playoff MVP as her solid play led the Fury to the WPSL national championship last summer. At the age of 17, she scored two goals from her midfield position and set up Now a freshman at Boston College, she was named All-American, All-State, All-Long Island and All-County as a senior at Baldwin High School. She was a member of the Eastern New York Olympic Development Program team for five years. Academically, Henderson was not too shabby either as she graduated in the top five percent of her class, was a National Honor Society and Foreign Language Society member plus played violin in the Chamber Orchestra. "Kelly has an unbelievable engine and is a physical specimen with a great mindset for the game," commented Fury head coach Paul Riley. "She is tactically way ahead of her years and is a superb all-around player. She can mark, defend, attack, take on players, is great in the air and a brilliant leader both on and off the field." DiMartino is her teammate on both the Fury and Boston College Eagles. A sophomore at college, she was named the 2005 Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year. She was honored as All-American and All-County while a senior at Massapequa High School. DiMartino received the Mike Clarke Award, named after the longtime Long Island Junior Soccer League volunteer, as the best female soccer player in Nassau County in 2004. She owns the Massapequa High School scoring record, topping the mark set by current U.S. National "Gina is a superb player with a tremendous ability to beat players. She is crafty, smart and can change a game in an instant. She is dynamic in tight spaces and loves one-on-one battles," commented coach Riley. "A great player to watch!" Both players previously competed for the U.S. Under 17 National Team and are honored to have made the big move up to the Under-20s, one step closer to the U.S. Women's National Team.
