Fit to Be Tied! Fury and Boston Aztecs Play to Another Scoreless Tie (July 12, 2006, Salem, Massachusetts)-In a match delayed by heavy rains, the Long Island Fury and Boston Aztecs tied, 0-0, tonight in Massachusetts. The Fury, using a younger roster with many teenagers, dominated the match with a 24-2 advantage in shots and a 10-3 advantage on corner kicks. It was déja vu all over again as the Fury dominated the Aztecs on June 18 at Hofstra but neither team could find the net. "We dominated the midfield where Kerri McNicholas was excellent," commented Long Island head coach Paul Riley, "Did not get much luck but we moved forward to goal for 90 minutes." 16-year-old Alyssa Faller of Queens and 15-year-old Molly Bruh from East Williston made impressive debuts tonight. Faller also plays with the Albertson Fury 89 and Bruh wears the Albertson Fury 90 colors. The game's defensive MVP was the Fury captain, Dix Hills' Mary Schneck, while Irish international player Marie Curtin of the Fury was the offensive MVP. It's too close to call whether the Fury (5-1-2) will make the Women's Premier Soccer League playoffs. The determining factor will be the matches this weekend. Long Island plays at the New England Mutiny (5-2-0) this Saturday night, July 15 and at the Massachusetts Stingers (4-1-1) this Sunday afternoon, July 16.
