New England Mutiny Defeats Long Island Fury, 5-3

(July 15, 2006, Springfield, Massachusetts)-The New England Mutiny defeated the Long Island Fury, 5-3, tonight. The Mutiny improves to 8-3-1 while the Fury drops to 5-2-2.

The Fury was up 1-0 on a 12th minute strike by Emily Sammis of Huntington. The turning point of the match came when Fury goalkeeper Becky Wachsberger of East Meadow was sent off midway through the first half. The Mutiny scored on the penalty kick and eventually went up 5-1 before Alaina Beyar of Staten Island and Katelynn Donovan of Melville made it closer late in the second half.

The Fury must win or tie their match tomorrow afternoon at the Massachusetts Stingers to advance to the Women's Premier Soccer League playoffs.
