Fury Defeats Adirondack, 2-0, to Advance to WPSL Final Four

(July 23, 2006, Oneonta, NY)-At the National Soccer Hall of Fame today, the Long Island Fury defeated the Adirondack Lynx, 2-0, in the Women's Premier Soccer League quarterfinals.

The Fury advances to the WPSL Final Four to be played next weekend in Salt Lake City. Eastern Conference champs Long Island, now 9-2-2, will meet the Western Conference champs, the San Diego Sea Lions, 11-1-1, in the semifinals on Friday, July 28 at 8 pm Eastern time.

"It was not our greatest performance, but we'll take it," commented Fury head coach Paul Riley. "We're headed to Utah."

Today's Fury victory is a bit of revenge for a 2-1 defeat to the Lynx back on July 8.

Emily Sammis of Huntington scored both goals on shots midway through each half. Captain Mary Schneck of Dix Hills assisted on the first goal and Marie Curtin assisted on the second.

Fury goalkeeper Becky Wachsberger of East Meadow made four saves in recording the shutout.

The Fury have become road warriors in playing six consecutive matches on the road and winning their last three. In order to win the national championship, two more road victories are needed.
