Sister Act! The Donovans Score the Goals to Lead the Fury to a 2-0 Semifinal Victory (July 28, 2006, Draper, Utah)-Midfielder Katelynn Donovan of Melville scored in the 27th minute and sister Shannon Donovan, a defender, scored in the 74th minute as the Long Island Fury shut out the San Diego Sea Lions, 2-0, Long Island's record now stands at 10-2-2 with 39 goals for and 9 goals conceded. San Diego drops to 11-2-1. On the first goal, a counterattack developed off a San Diego corner kick as Cody Neuman sent a long through pass to Katelynn Donovan who put the ball in the net. Shannon Donovan scored off a stunning 35-yard free kick for the insurance goal. Fury goalkeeper Becky Wachsberger of East Meadow recorded four saves in the shutout. Other outstanding players on the Fury tonight were 16-year-old defender Alysaa Pember of Northport and midfielder Kelly Henderson of In the other semifinal, River Cities Futbol Club, the Midwest champ from St. Louis, defeated the Western Conference champion, Southern California's Ajax America, in the nightcap and will meet the Fury at 10 pm Eastern time on Saturday. "We are delighted to be playing for the national championship especially considering that we started the franchise seven months ago," commented Fury head coach Paul Riley. "Tomorrow, we hope that our youthful legs will carry us." The Fury can mimic the 1973 Philadelphia Atoms and 1998 Chicago Fire by becoming that rare expansion team to win a national championship with a victory tomorrow night.
