Fury Top Adirondack Lynx, 4-2

June 22, 2007-Player of the Match Christina DiMartino of Masspequa led the national champion Long Island Fury to a 4-2 victory over the Adirondack Lynx tonight.

The Fury improve to 4-1-2 while the Lynx drop to 2-4-0 in the Women's Premier Soccer League standings.

Katelynn Donovan of Melville opened the scoring in the 11th minute with an 18-yard goal in the corner of the net over the head of Lynx keeper Erika Bohn.

The Lynx quickly tied it in the 14th minute with a 22-yard chip from Heather Carniack over the head of Fury goalie Becky Wachsberger of East Meadow.

Three minutes later, Long Island replied when DiMartino scored from 10 yards off an assist from Donovan.

Christina's sister, Gina DiMartino, got into the scoring act in the 44th minute, off an assist from Emily Sammis of Huntington, to bring the score to 3-1 at halftime.

Kelly Henderson of Baldwin scored an emphatic 10-yard screamer in the 71st minute off an assist from Donovan and the Lynx's Carla Arbula closed the scoring in the 75th minute on a breakaway.

Fury keeper Wachsberger made three saves while her counterpart, Bohr, was busier with six saves in the end-to-end match.

"Christina DiMartino brought the Fury to a different level tonight. To be honest with you, I thought that we should have scored a couple more goals," commented Fury head coach Paul Riley, "With her one goal and two assists, Katelyn Donovan was another player who had a strong match."

After the match, the national champions watched fireworks in Fury red over their home field, Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale.

The Fury's next match is their last regular season game at home. They play the Northampton Laurels on Friday night, July 6 at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale. Kick-off is set for 5:30 pm.
