Long Island Fury Defeats New York Athletic Club,
9-0, in U.S. Open Cup Match

(June 26, 2006, Travers Island, NY)-In a U.S. Open Cup round of 16 match on scenic Travers Island, the Long Island Fury defeated the host New York Athletic Club, 9-0.

Captain Mary Schneck of Dix Hills opened the scoring in the 40th minute. Emily Sammis of Huntington, making her debut for the Fury, scored an unbelievable seven consecutive goals in the second half. Lorraine Quinn of Farmingdale scored Long Island's ninth goal.

"It was a super win on the road," commented Fury head coach Paul Riley. "It was good to score some goals after being shut out by the Boston Aztecs last week."

Fury g oalkeeper Becky Wachsberger of East Meadow made four saves tonight. Long Island has never conceded a goal in their short history of five matches and 450 minutes. They have played four Women's Premier Soccer League games and one U.S. Open Cup match.

The Fury now advance to the quarterfinals where they will meet the winner of the match between United German Hungarians of Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey's Kappa Real Wyckoff.

The 3-0-1 Fury return home to the confines of the Hofstra Soccer Stadium this Thursday night, June 29 vs. the 2-5-1 Philadelphia Pirates. Kick-off is at 7:30 pm. The first 300 fans receive Fury car magnets courtesy of All-County Driving School and Uniplast Industries.
