Long Island Fury Shut Out Philadelphia Pirates, 6-0

(June 29, 2006, Hempstead, NY)-The Long Island Fury defeated the Philadephia Pirates, 6-0, at Hofstra University tonight.

The Fury are now 4-0-1 in the Women's Premier Soccer League standings and the Pirates drop to 2-6-1 as they have not won in seven consecutive games. Long Island has a 26-0 goal differential and have not given up a goal in their 540-minute history.

Lorraine Quinn on Farmingdale was the game MVP as she scored two goals and had one assist tonight. Scoring the other Fury goals were Marie Curtin, Elaine O'Connor, Dolores Deasley and Shannon Donovan. Irish eyes must have
been smiling on the Fury as all their scorers had Irish last names.

The Fury dominated and had a 9-0 corner kick advantage. The Pirates' offside trap caught the Fury 15 times.

"I'm really pleased with our performance tonight. I thought it was our best performance of the season," commented Fury head coach Paul Riley. "We were really clean on the ball and scored some spectacular goals."

The Fury finishes its home schedule with a Thursday night, July 6 encounter against the 2-2-1 New York Athletic Club with kick-off set for 6:30 pm at Michael Tully Park in New Hyde Park. Note the start time and stadium as Hofstra is not available for this match, originally postponed on June 7 because of heavy rain and an unplayable field.
