After Winning First Match Ever, Long Island Fury Prepares for Home Opener

(May 23, 2006, Albertson, NY)-The Long Island Fury are preparing for their home opener on Wednesday night, June 7 vs. the New York Athletic Club confident after defeating the Northampton Laurels, 5-0, last Saturday night in Easton, Pennsylvania.

Marie Curtin goes down in history for scoring the Fury's first three goals ever. Strike number one came on a 25-yard free kick in the 23rd minute. Her other tallies were in the 30th and 37th minutes to complete a very rare first half hat trick.

Rebecca Moros added a 65th minute penalty kick after Elaine O'Connor was tripped inside the penalty area. And 15-year-old Alaina Beyar outran the entire Laurel defense to score the game's last goal on a breakaway in the 85th minute.

"I was really satisfied with the result, obviously," commented Long Island head coach Paul Riley. "First match ever, we displayed a lot of speed. Very entertaining stuff. Defender Sue Weber was the best player on the field in my opinion."

The Fury's home opener is on Wednesday, June 7 vs. the New York Athletic Club, 7:30 pm at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
