Long Island Fury Shuts Out NYAC, 2-0

May 30, 2007-In the battle for New York, the Long Island Fury shut out the New York Athletic Club, 2-0, in a NYAC home match at Travers Island tonight.

The Fury improve to 2-0-0 on the young season while NYAC drops to 0-2-0.

The Player of the Match, forward Alaina Beyar of Rockville Centre, scored both goals for the Women's Premier Soccer League national champions, in the 32nd and 39th minutes. Both tallies came off assists from midfielder Kelly Henderson of Baldwin, last year's Playoff Tournament MVP.

Becky Wachsberger of East Meadow (5 saves) and Laura Elfers (1 save) shared the shutout in goal. The Fury defense increased their scoreless streak to an amazing 535 minutes, 107 minutes shy of the franchise record of 642 minutes without surrendering a goal.

"It was not an outstanding performance tonight as we lacked chemistry but it's three points away from home so we'll take it," commented Long Island Fury head coach Paul Riley.

The next home game is this Friday night, June 1. The Fury take on the Atlantic City Diablos at 5:30 pm while their men's team, the Long Island Academy, play the Diablos' men at 7:45 pm. Because of the unavailability of home field Mitchel Athletic Complex that night due to the Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged, the games will be played at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point.
