Five Long Island Fury Players Set to Compete in NEWSS (November 20, 2006, Albertson, NY)-Five players of the national champion Long Island Fury will be competing for their Albertson club teams in the National Elite Women's Soccer Showcase (NEWSS), to be played this Friday In just the third year of its existence, NEWSS is becoming a Thanksgiving tradition. The object is not to knock the stuffing out of your opponents but to impress the college coaches in attendance to help gain entry and scholarship to the university of your choice. 42 of the finest girls soccer teams from the Eastern United States and Canada, from Girls Under 15 to 18, will be playing in this U.S. Club Soccer tournament. The venues are Dean Skelos Park in Rockville Centre, Hofstra University in Hempstead and Michael Tully Park in New Hyde Park. The Friday night games, from 5 to 9:30 pm, will be played only at Skelos. The five players from the national champions that will be competing are: Defender Alyssa Pember-Albertson Fury '89 and the United States Youth National Team Under-17 captain. "Alyssa is a first-class defender and an unbelievable competitor. She is the best defender in her age group in the country in my opinion," commented Fury head coach Paul Riley. "She is Forward Alaina Beyar-Albertson Fury '89 and a Regional team member. "Alaina can change a game in an instant. Electric quick! Loves scoring goals and is very difficult to contain," said coach Riley. "First-class training habits and a true striker's mentality. Knows when and how to run big time!" Defender Alyssa Faller-Albertson Fury '89 and a State ODP Team member. Coach Riley stated that "she has great poise and confidence on the ball. Good size and athleticism plus a player who reads the game particularly well." Midfielder Cody Newman-Albertson Fury '89 and a Regional team member. Riley stated that she has "tremendous ability on the ball. A fantastic engine with vision and top class technique to go with it." Forward Leigh-Anne Cummings-Albertson Fury '88. "Wonderful ability to beat players. Very quick and direct and has a volatile shot with both feet," commented coach Riley.
