Defender and Team Captain Mary Schneck There's something about Mary! The 21-year-old Dix Hills resident has provided the leadership on the field to help all her teams excel on the soccer field. Mary captained both the HBC Fury of the Long Island Junior Soccer League and Half Hollow Hills East from her defender With the HBC Fury, she won an amazing seven State Cups and three regional championships. Mary also won an improbable four high school division titles with Half Hollow Hills High School East. The best was yet to come as she captained a Long Island Fury team that won the Women's Premier Soccer League national championship in its first season of play. She led a very stingy defense that did not concede a goal in its first 642 minutes of play. For her leadership on the soccer field, Mary has been named a Long Island Press Hero of the Week. Mary currently plays for the Boston College Eagles when she's not competing for the Long Island Fury. Paul Riley coached her on the HBC Fury in the 1990s and early part of this decade. "Mary's pedigree as a player and her fantastic leadership qualities made it an easy choice to name her captain," Coach Riley said. "She was my captain on the original Fury team and she knows exactly what is expected of a Fury team and a Fury captain."
